With my interactive object I am testing whether
or not we are capable of dissociating our ears from each other by forcing the
participant to separate their hearing so that they focus on and repeat what
they hear in one ear even though they will be listening to a similar sound in
the other ear. My basis stems from my realization that with our touching
sense we favour either our left or right limbs so I wanted to explore whether
or not our hearing sense reacts in the same way. My concept is one which we
don’t normally take notice of in our day to day life so with this experiment
I hope to challenge my participants with an experience that they didn’t
previously think about, test whether or not there are left and right
dominancy levels with their hearing and explore whether the common human
being is able to separate their ears from each other.
Instructions
You will
hear a collection of rhythmic beats consisting of only two types of drum
beats. The white pad represent the higher clap sounding beat and should be
played with your left hand and the black pad represents the lower base
sounding beat and should be played with your right hand.
When repeating the beats use both your hands the play out the tune -Place the head phones in your ears making sure that they are in their designated ears -Turn on the iPod and press play on level 1 of the 8 levels -On the black and white pads repeat only the beat you hear in your left ear -Now repeat only the beat playing in your right ear -Listen to each ear separately to see if you have repeated the beat correctly -When you think you have each beat move onto the next level and repeat the process (School of design website won't let me upload the instructions) |
