Project Concept

In this project we were asked to explore our own and other peoples sense perception in order to design an interactive project that provides a unique and innovative experience. The sense I chose to focus my project on is hearing. Whilst brainstorming for this project I realized that with our touching senses we tend to favour both our left or right-sided hands and feet so I wanted to explore whether or not our other senses react in the same way.  I plan to have an interactive object that forces the participant to focus on what they hear in one ear even though they will be listening to a similar sound in the other ear. The participant will be listening to different looping drum rhythms in each ear and will be told which ear to focus on. They will have to repeat the sound onto a drum to test whether or not they are able to solely copy the one ear and not get the two sounds confused. My concept is one which we don’t normally take notice of in our day to day life so with this experiment I hope to challenge my participants with an experience that they didn’t previously think about and test whether or not there are left and right dominancy levels with our hearing
